Leona Petermeier

Leona J. Petermeier, 100, of the Villa del Sol, died there Friday, July 10th, while in their care, her loving family and the Iowa River Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 14th, at St. Henrys Catholic Church with Fr. Don Czapla officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5-7:00 p.m. on Monday. A wake service/rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund is being established. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234. Born Leona J. Knoll on April 21st, 1909, at Haverhill, Iowa, she was the daughter of Jospeh and Anna (Dankbar) Knoll. She received her education in the St. Joseph School in Haverhill. She was united in marriage to Roy Petermeier and they made their homes in Tama and Marshalltown. In 1997, she became part of the Villa del Sol family. Mrs. Petermeier was employed at Lenihan School for 5 years and St. Marys School cafeteria for 25 years. She was a member of St. Henrys Parish, Council of Catholic Women, St. Cecelias Study Club and was active in mission work for St. Henrys and the childrens library at St. Henrys School. Left to cherish her memory is her children: Barbara (the late David) Arp of Gladbrook, Larry (the late Mary Ann) Petermeier of Green Mountain and Gary (Charlotte) Petermeier of Pilot Point, TX, 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, her sister Ann Creager of Marshalltown and several nieces and nephews. In death she has rejoined her husband Roy, son Elmo, daughters-in-law Marjorie and Mary Ann, son-in-law David, two sisters, three brothers, and a great-granddaughter.
