Leonard Otto, 91, of Clemons, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at his home. Graveside services will be held at the Clemons Cemetery on Friday June 14, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Military Honors performed by the Harry C. Harter Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #839 and the American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post #46. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Leonard and his family. Phone 641-844-1234. Leonard Otto was born on January 8, 1922, in Johnston Station, Iowa to Earl and Mary Weaver Otto. He graduated from the Clemons School District in 1940. In April of 1941, Leonard married Farol Marie Stewart. He enrolled in the Army in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. Leonard earned the Bronze Star Medal as well as the Purple Heart while defending his country. Leonard farmed and worked at Goodman Milling in State Center until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed gardening, puzzles, and was an excellent woodworker. Left to cherish his memory is his children: Sandra Otto, Sharon Otto and Sheryl (Rodney) Westphal. Leonard is preceded in death by his wife Farol, both parents, and seven siblings.
