W. Leroy McDonald, 66, of Marshalltown, died Monday, May 11, 2009, at his home while in the care of his family and Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 15th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to Leroys family. Born Wilford Leroy McDonald on May 26th, 1942, in Whitten, Iowa, he was the son of George and Lois (Sisson) McDonald. He received his education in the Marshalltown Public Schools. Leroy farmed near Colo for 20 years and then worked at E.F. Mack Plumbing and Heating for several years. He enjoyed playing bingo at the LOG hall on 13th Street, going to the Meskwaki Casino, and camping in Nashua during the chuck wagon races. He was a father first and foremost. On August 4th, 1963, he was united in marriage to Gladys Moody. They divorced and he was later married to Gladyss half-sister Marla Moody on May 9th, 1981. Marla passed away and he remarried his first wife, Gladys, on May12, 2007. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Gladys, eleven children: Norman (Jen) McDonald, David (Laurie) McDonald, Bonnie (Jerry) Martin, Malinda (Joe) Lutes, Chad (Fawn) Moody, Heather (Joel) Sanchez, Felicia (Santiago) Duenez, Amanda (Tim) Winger, Christopher McDonald, Andrea McDonald and Nathan McDonald, 33 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, his mother, Lois McDonald, his siblings: Georgetta (Keith) Dolhman, Gerald McDonald and Eldon (Pam) McDonald, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death, he has rejoined his wife Marla, his father George, and two granddaughters.
