Lester Randall

Lester Bud Randall, 98, of Marshalltown, died Wednesday, May 21st at the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center where he has resided since April of 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 24th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be one-hour prior. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born Lester Alton Randall on August 22nd, 1915, in rural Marshall County, he was the son of Myron and Maude (Snider) Randall. He received his education in the area of his birth and graduated from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1933. During WWII, Bud served our country honorably in the United States Army. He was stationed in the European Theatre and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his honorable discharge at a 1st Lt., he returned to the states. On April 5th, 1941, he was united in marriage to Maxine Emily Van DeWalle. They made their home in Marshalltown where they shared 72 years together. Bud was employed for 50 years at the Times-Republican as a printer. He was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church, the Frank-Lewis Glick American Legion Post #46 and the Harry C. Harter Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #839. Bud enjoyed woodworking and making things for his grandkids, gardening, and watching any type of ballgame. Most of all, he loved time with his family. Left to cherish his memory are his son Bruce (Jan) Randall of Marshalltown, grandchildren Nic (Ginna), Luke and Dillon Randall; Shawn (Julie) and Stephanie Hugen, great-grandchildren- Myles, Kade, Eli, Henry, Kelcy and Parker Randall; Jordan, Sage and Keiler Blue and Aidan and Connor Hugen, and many nieces and nephews. In death, Bud rejoined his beloved Maxine, his daughter Claudia and twin brothers, Wyatt and Willard.
