Lezli Ann Hartwig

Lezli Ann Hartwig, 66, passed away on March 25, 2025.

She was born on October 4, 1958, in Marshalltown, Iowa, where she was raised before moving to California. There, she built a life by the ocean, working as a bartender for most of her adult years. She had a free spirit and a heart full of love, especially for her animals, whom she cherished as her children.

Lezli found joy in life’s simple pleasures—playing games, spending time in her garden, and soaking up the sun. She had a deep love for music, especially live performances, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy a good concert. Her laughter was contagious, and her presence brought warmth and joy to those around her.

In 2019, she returned to Marshalltown, where she spent the remainder of her life surrounded by family and friends. She found a loving home with her adopted family, Kim and Doug Hanken, and their children and grandchildren. She loved gathering for holidays, birthdays, shared meals, and watching sports games, always bringing laughter and a welcoming spirit.

Lezli was a proud graduate of Marshalltown High School, Class of 1977. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clair and Marlene (Turner) Hartwig. She is survived by her brothers, Dirk Hartwig and Ross (Tree) Hartwig; her nieces and nephews, Justin and Jessica Hartwig, and John, Jeremy, and Tara Aden. She is also survived by her beloved pets, Mavis, Freddie, and Molly, who brought her endless joy and companionship.

A celebration of Lezli’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to a local animal shelter, reflecting her deep love for animals.

Lezli’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
