Linda Aschan

Heaven gained another angel after the peaceful passing of Linda Aschan, 60, of Garwin, formerly of Marshalltown on Saturday, April 17, 2021. She was surrounded by family and comfort at the Iowa River Hospice House. A visitation for Linda will take place on Friday, April 23 from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, followed by funeral services at 2:00 P.M. Linda will be laid to rest at Timber Creek Cemetery following the service. Linda and her family have requested that all attendees dress in casual attire. She graduated from Marshalltown High School with the class of 1979 and went on to attend Marshalltown Community College. In her early years, she delivered newspapers and worked at Hardees and Donutland. After meeting the love of her life, Burke Aschan, they were united in marriage on July 14, 1979 at Fellowship Baptist Church. Family meant everything to Linda, and together she and Burke have created a beautiful legacy through their own children, adoption and fostering more than 30 children over three decades. Linda loved children, and after working for a time at Elim Children’s Center, she decided to open her own daycare. Linda’s Daycare provided love and care for many families in Marshalltown over the 30 years it was open. Linda had a strong faith and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In her free time, she loved shopping and spoiling her grandkids, nieces and nephews, as well as doing puzzles and making tie-blankets. She enjoyed experiences like traveling to House on the Rock, dinner cruises in Davenport and attending Disney on Ice and concerts, including the Statler Brothers and the Oakridge Boys. Linda was an avid collector of porcelain dolls and Disney musical snow globes. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 41 years, Burke; children: Jill (Noah) Campbell, Michael (Carrie) Aschan, Jason (Jannae) Aschan, Matthew (Sarah) Aschan, Alex Aschan, Kenny Aschan, Malik Aschan, Ricky Aschan and Hannah Aschan; 9 grandchildren: Jordyn, Jenika, Derek, Kileen, Addelyn, Calliope, Jessy, Ezekiel and Violet; her parents, Frank and Dorothy Borton; siblings: Connie Grommet, Doug (Penny) Borton, Tammy (Chris) Egleston and JoAnn Verbeek; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. In death, Linda is reunited with her brother, Larry Borton; grandparents, Bertha and Archie Borton; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and her beloved cat, Mr. Whiskers.
