Linda King

Linda Adell King, 74, of Tama, and formerly of Marshalltown, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Heritage Specialty Care in Cedar Rapids, under the care of Mercy Hospice.

Memorial services for Linda will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Linda Trehey was born on November 14, 1949 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin to Bernard and Donna (Klein) Trehey. She helped care for her sisters Mary, Julie, Valerie, brother Denis and twin siblings Chuck and Angela.

Linda graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1967. Linda had previously been married to Vern McDonald and they had two children together: Jennifer and Robert; they later divorced. Linda married Richard King and they had two sons: Joseph and Michael. Linda and Richard would divorce later as well. In 1974, Linda received her LPN license from Marshalltown Community College School of Nursing. Linda had worked at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown from 1980 until 1993. She went back to school in 2001 to obtain her associates degree in Human Services. She was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa in 2001 and was the recipient of the Human Services Academic Scholarship in 2002. She worked at the Quakerdale Ranch from 2005 until 2006. Linda enjoyed listening to music (especially the oldies), watching movies and enjoyed taking care of other people. She especially loved the time spent with family.

Linda is survived by her children and one very special niece: Jennifer (Randy) Sissel of Fort Madison, Robert McDonald of Newton, Joseph (Rebecca) King of Toledo, Michael King of Cedar Rapids and Jodi (Kevin) Hardy of Mason City. Grandchildren: Benjamin Sissel, Joshua Sissel, Samuel Sissel, Mickey McDonald, Noah Sissel, Levi Sissel, Katelyn Sissel, Braden King, Savannah Sissel, David King, Amillianna King, Aaden King, Athena King and Aurora King. Siblings: Mary Roche, Angela (Brian) Anderson, Chuck Fricke, and Valerie Barney.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents: Bernard Trehey and Donna Fricke; step-father: Renton Fricke; siblings: Denis Trehey and Julie Glenney and grandson: Kristian McDonald.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Mitchell Family Funeral Home to help the family offset the cost of fulfilling Linda’s wishes.
