Des Moines

Linda Norris, age 85 of Des Moines and formerly of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 22, 2025.

Born Linda Sue Harrison on November 24, 1940 in Marshalltown, the 4th of 5 children born to Elizabeth (Owen) Harrison. She graduated from Marshalltown High School.

In 1958, Linda was united in marriage with Barry Gene Norris. The couple moved from Marshalltown to Evansville, Indiana and then to Marion, Iowa. After their divorce in 1984, they continued to co-parent their “special needs” daughter until his death in 1988.

Linda was a devoted mother to her children, especially to her daughter, Becky, who has the rare Kleefstra Syndrome. Linda was assisted over the years by many wonderful caregivers, friends, and family member to care for Becky. The family is grateful for all their support and concern. Linda found joy in flower gardening, antiquing and attending auctions. She also enjoyed attending the Iowa State Fair.

Linda possessed a true knack for furniture and held a deep appreciation for refurbishing Craftsman-style homes. One project especially dear to her heart was the restoration of Aunt Kate and Uncle Charlie Ransom’s 1918 home in Des Moines.

Linda had a successful career in banking. She started as a teller in Marshalltown, later going back to school for computer programming. She earned her degree from Devry Institute of Technology in Chicago and began working as a programmer at Wells Fargo in Des Moines, IA, where she worked until her retirement in 2007.

Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth; her brother, Bill Harrison; and her sister, Betty J. Harrison. Left to cherish her memory are her children: David W. (Clarissa) Norris of FL, Rebecca Sue Norris of Des Moines, and Christina L. Norris of IL; her grandchildren: Kellie J. Norris (Frank Garcia – Hejl) of CA and Grantham J. Norris of GA; and great-granddaughter, Nora Harper Garcia. She is also survived by her sister, Donna Tichy of Garwin, IA; brother, Jim Harrison of Marshalltown; along with countless nieces, nephews and cousins.

Per Linda’s wishes, cremation rites will take place. There will be no formal services. The family will honor her in a private celebration of life. Memorial donations may be directed to Unbridled Spirits Thoroughbred Retirement Ranch Inc.
