Linda Shatto, age 75, formerly of Marshalltown and most recently of Dubuque, passed away early Saturday morning, May 2nd, at the Dubuque Specialty Care.

No formal services will be held at this time and we encourage all who knew her to celebrate her being able to rejoin her parents and husband in a healthy new body. Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown is caring for Linda and her family. Ph. 641-844-1234.

Born on January 18th, 1951, in Blue Earth, MN, she was the daughter of Ben and Marjorie Ione (Simmons) Groen. She received her education and was raised in Sheffield, Iowa. She was an advocate of education and furthered her career obtaining her Master’s degree. For many years, she taught in the Marshalltown Public Schools (Miller and later Woodbury) as Library Media-specialist.

On August 23rd, 1986, at the Little Brown Church- the same church her mom and dad were married in- she was united to Marvin Douglas Shatto. They made their home in Nevada, Iowa, and later Marshalltown. Marvin passed away after a long battle with MS in 2010.

Linda was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and was an avid reader, gardener and scrap booker. She treasured her family and the relationships she made in her career at the Marshalltown Schools as well as her cats. After retirement, she became a tour guide for the United States Park Commission providing tours at Alcatraz in San Francisco.

Left to cherish her memory is her son Ben (Zoey) Shatto of Asbury, Iowa and three precious grandchildren- Allissa, Ashlynn and River.

In death, she has rejoined her parents and husband Marvin.
