Lloyd Dean Haynes, 90, of Marshalltown, Iowa went to meet his Lord on Sunday, July 22, 2018. His passing occurred in the comfort of Iowa River Hospice with his family at his side. Lloyd’s passing was an unfortunate result of the devastating tornado that hit Marshalltown on July 19, 2018. Mr. Haynes suffered injuries from a fall due to the tornado displacing him from his home. Funeral services for Lloyd will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the Garwin United Methodist Church. Public visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed in Lloyd’s name to his family which will be later designated to the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight, the Garwin United Methodist Church, and Iowa River Hospice Home. Lloyd was born on April 13, 1928 on the family farm southwest of Garwin, the son of Carver and Ventura (Ambler) Haynes. He attended country school through the 8th grade and started in the 9th grade at Green Mountain but left school to work on area farms at the age of 14. Lloyd was able to purchase his first car before he was 16 and the money was taken out of his wages every month. Lloyd was united in marriage to Helen (Lucht) on December 30, 1951 and was drafted into the army three weeks later. He was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and then was sent to Germany for 18 months during the Korean War. He was with the 139th Engineer Co in Mannhiem, Germany. He was honorably discharged on January 4, 1954.Lloyd was a member of Wm Saunders #71 Legion in Garwin and was also a commander and belonged to the Lions Club for some time. He enjoyed dancing where he made many lifelong friends. He was a warm, friendly man who was always happily whistling, and also a ferocious card player. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Helen Haynes, children: Janyce (Todd) Stewart, Iowa City, Cindy (Dennis) Cruikshank, Marshalltown, Mark (Renee) Haynes, Big Sky Montana; grandchildren: Julie Stewart, Jared (Mary Parker Stewart) Stewart, Katie (Dan) Diez, Derek (Ann) Cruikshank, Tyler Cruikshank, Lauren Haynes, Keith Haynes and Sarah Haynes; great-grandchildren: Kaylee Stewart, Delaney Diez, Lauren Borthwick, Roman Cruikshank, and Beckett Cruikshank; brothers: Duane Haynes, Des Moines, Gary Haynes, Newton, Monte (Helga) Haynes, Hazelwood, MO, and Fred (Judie) Haynes, Toledo. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ventura Haynes and Carver Haynes; son, Bruce, granddaughter, Hannah Stewart, brother, Jay Haynes, sisters: Davida Pierce and Sandra Funk; sister in laws: Marilyn (Gary) Haynes, Esther (Duane) Haynes, Donna (Jay) Haynes, Diana Beck (Jay Haynes) and John (Davida) Pierce and many cousins and extended family.
