Lois Middelkoop, 91, of Gladbrook, formerly of Melbourne and Van Cleve, died Saturday morning, July 12th, at the Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook while in their care and the Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born Lois Ardelle Sash on June 26th, 1917, in rural Jasper County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Phillip and Effie (Emmack) Sash. She received her education in the Laurel Consolidated Schools. On December 31st, 1935, she was united in marriage to Martin Middelkoop in Nevada, Iowa. They made their home near Melbourne, then Van Cleve and returned to Melbourne in 1980. Mrs. Middelkoop was employed for many years at the Marshall County Care Facility in the laundry department and then as a home health aid in Marshall County until her retirement. Lois was a member of the former Van Cleve United Church of Christ, the ladies aid of the church. She enjoyed embroidery, traveling and treasured her family - being blessed as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandma. Lois has called Westbrook Acres her home since June 1st, 2005. Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Juanita (Fritz) Fulster of Gladbrook, Ronald (Helen Kling) Middelkoop of Hershey, and PA. and Phillip (Mary K. Mason) Middelkoop of Marshalltown, four grandchildren: Dawn (Joe) Jindrich of Toddville, Iowa, Stacy Fulster (Larry Melton) of Lincoln, Iowa, Joseph (Soyoung) Middelkoop of Busan, South Korea and Beth (Chad) Carbone of Alexandria, VA, step grandchildren: Jeff (Tammy) Williams of Powder Springs, GA and Matt (Anna) Williams of Marshalltown, great-grandchildren: Justin Jindrich of Cedar Rapids, Ashley and Haley Jindrich of Toddville, step-great-grandchildren: Brandon and Brittney Williams of Powder Springs, GA and Haley and Mason Williams of Marshalltown, her sister Helen Baker of Arcadia, California and a host of friends. In death she has rejoined her parents, her beloved Martin who died on August 31, 1991, and sister Doris Damman.
