Lois Wilson

June 1, 1930 — October 19, 2022

Lois V. Wilson, 92, lifelong resident of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at the Iowa River Hopsice Home.


Services for Lois will take place on Saturday, October 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marshalltown with Pastor Mike Herschberger officiating. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Born Lois Virginia Kaufmann on June 1, 1930 in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of August and Zella (Johnson) Kaufmann. She graduated from Marshalltown High School with the class of 1948. Lois was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Dale Wilson, on March 28, 1948. Lois was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. She also worked several jobs over the years, including KIOWA, Marshalltown Manufacturing, Fisher Controls and for Harlan Wulke.


In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting and reading. She was also a member of the Ornithologist Club. Lois was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, serving over the years as Sunday School teacher, choir member and as a member of Women of the Evangelical Church of America (WELCA). She found great fulfillment in volunteering at the hospital for 17 years and as a foster parent for 21 years. Lois loved to bake and was especially known for her snickerdoodles, pecan squares, brownies and rhubarb crunch. More than anything else, she loved spending time with her family.


Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband of 74 years, Dale; her children: Deborah Mason of Toledo, Dianne (Jack) Hughes of Alvord, TX, Dawn (Jeff) Johnston of Marshalltown, Brian (Carrie) Wilson of Cedar Rapids and Dana (Denise Morrow) Wilson of Portland, OR; daughter-in-law Joy Wilson of Benton, KS; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; her brother Darol (Bev) Kaufmann of Superior, WI; sister-in-law Janet Kaufmann and numerous nieces and nephews.


In eternal life she is reunited with her son Dan Wilson, her parents August and Zella, grandson Garrett Shinn and her brothers, Paul Kaufmann and in infancy, David Kaufmann.
