Lois Zitzow

Lois “June” Zitzow, 91, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on the evening of Saturday, June 20, 2020 at the Iowa River Hospice Home. A visitation for Lois’s family and friends will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home beginning at 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Memorials in Lois’s name may be directed to her family for a later designation. Lois Brandt was born November 3, 1928 in Marietta Township. She was the only child born to Harvey and Gertrude (Wolf) Brandt. She attended school in Lamoille, Iowa and graduated as part of the class of 1947. Out of high school, Lois was united in marriage to her husband Henry Zitzow on November 2, 1947. Together they began a family of 3 on the family farm in State Center. Lois worked as part of the school lunch program in State Center for a number of years before working at the state center nursing home as part of their kitchen staff. When she wasn’t working in food service, she was at home raising her family or helping Henry out with the farm work. The two moved to Marshalltown in the late 80’s. Lois’s family would say that she was a simple lady. She was a member of Club Meskwaki at Meskwaki Bingo and Casino in Tama. She loved to go on trips with her friends every now and then to get dinner together and spin the slots. She enjoyed painting various ceramic figurines which she would keep around her home. Lois and Henry would travel together when able going to Hawaii three separate times as well as making a trip to Alaska. They would travel every winter to Texas to escape the snow and cold. Above all of her hobbies her family was of main importance and loved spending time with them. Left to remember and cherish her memory are her children Dennis Zitzow, David (Carol) Zitzow, and Sherrie Funke; her grandchildren, Mike Zitzow, Scott Zitzow, Ali Harrelson, Clint Zitzow, Ashley Brillon, Jacob Funke and Jesse Funke; her great-grandchildren Aubrey Zitzow, Adalyn Zitzow, Kira Brillon, Naty Brillon and Olivia Brillon. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry; her infant son Timothy Zitzow; and her parents Harvey and Gertrude Brandt.
