Born Lola Faye Needham on September 22, 1932 to parents Fred and Evelyn (Hoyt) Needham, she was raised on a farm in Marshall County. After graduating from Van Cleave High School with the class of 1951, she started work at Newton Manufacturing in the billing department.
After meeting the love of her life, Keith Schoppe, they were united in marriage on July 20, 1957. They made their home in State Center, where they raised their two children, David born in 1959 and Dolores born in 1961. Lola was baptized and confirmed on March 22, 1970 at Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center, where she remained a faithful member the past 55 years.
Keith and Lola celebrated 49 years of marriage before Keith’s passing in 2006. They enjoyed many winters in South Texas together, where they were blessed to meet many lifelong friends at Kenwood RV Park who became their extended family and support system. Lola continued her trips to Texas on her own until 2020.
Lola had a heart for helping and deep love of quilting, both of which she was able to utilize at Trinity Lutheran and at the Kenwood RV Park. She made over 6,000 quilts for various causes in her lifetime. It filled her soul to do mission work, including sewing pillowcase dresses, and volunteering with the Orphan Grain Train and in the kitchen at church for luncheons. She also kept a large garden and was able to share her tomatoes with the State Center Fire Department when they practiced for convention. Lola loved her family deeply and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, supporting them in their many activities and endeavors.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Dolores (Marvin) Morgart of Story City; daughter-in-law Martha (Dan Coster) Norton of Ames; three grandchildren: Justin (Briley) Schoppe of College Station, TX, and Sarah and Maegan Schoppe, both of Ames; brother-in-law Larry Mino of Indianola, sister-in-law Donna Schoppe of State Center and brother-in-law Daryl Schoppe of State Center, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In eternal life, Lola is reunited with her beloved husband, Keith; her son, David; her parents, Fred and Evelyn; and siblings: Floyd (Ruth) Needham, Arla Needham, Shirley (Roger) Cropper and Audrey Mino. She is also preceded in death by her inlaws, Alva and Emma Schoppe; a sister-in-law Marilynn Schoppe and brother-in-law Clair (Kay) Schoppe.
