Lona Gonzales

Lona D. Gonzales, 85, of Marshalltown, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Grandview Heights Rehab and Healthcare under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services for Lona will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Lona Smith was born on February 1, 1934 in Lisbon, North Dakota to Volla and Ila Smith. Lona graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1951. On December 5, 1953, she was united in marriage to Derald “Bud” Gonzales in Unionville, Missouri. Lona had been a jail matron and cook at the old jail in Marshalltown on 2nd Avenue for twenty plus years. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed dancing, camping and traveling to every state west of Iowa. Lona was stubborn but loving and her grandchildren, especially Piper and Keegan, gave her a purpose to live the past few years. Lona is survived by her children: Rick (Carrie) Gonzales of Marshalltown and Terri (Wayne) Hendryx of Kellogg. Grandchildren: Joshua (Alicia) Hansen, Justin (Tammy) Hansen, Joey (Jenna) Hansen, Tiffany Gonzales, Krystal Gonzales, Erick Gonzales, Piper Gonzales and Keegan Gonzales. She is also survived by numerous great grandchildren and her sister, Carmen (Harvey) Staton. Lona is preceded in death by her husband, Bud, parents, Volla and Ila and sister, Gloria.
