Born Loren Cecil Vogt on September 24, 1933 on the family farm in rural Rhodes, he was the son of Raymond and Viola (Bosch) Vogt. Growing up, Loren excelled at sports, especially baseball and basketball. Shortly after his graduation from Van Cleve Consolidated School, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably during the Korean War era. After his service, Loren returned to the love of his life, Sharon Nason, a young woman he grew up with. The two were united in marriage on November 5, 1955 at St. John United Church of Christ in Melbourne. Together, they made their home in Van Cleve, where he farmed well into his eighties. Loren worked hard and played hard. He was a lifelong sports-enthusiast and athlete, participating in everything from golf, slow-pitch softball, pool and bowling. Baseball has been a pivotal piece of his entire life: from childhood to playing in the Army and trying out for the Chicago White Sox, to coaching his children in Little League. His love of the game was only exceeded by his deep love for his wife and his family. Loren loved playing sports with his grandchildren and watching their many activities. He also enjoyed fishing, puzzles, traveling and going to the casino. Loren was ornery and fun-loving, patient and hilarious. He was an exceptional caretaker to his wife, Sharon in their final years together. After the passing of his wife, Loren was also fortunate to share his last few years with recent companion, Betty Jacobs. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Noel (Renee) Vogt of Melbourne and Holly (Randy) Ritland of Hubbard; grandchildren: Erika Wolfe, Vicki (Jerry) Hales, Christopher Ritland (Sara Murken), Timothy (Rachel) Ritland, Sierra (Brandon) Suarez and Amanda Vogt (Lior Peer); great-grandchildren: Journey, Kolbie and Finley Wolfe, John and Callista Hales, Gavin and Autumn Suarez; his brother, Kenneth Vogt; several nieces and nephews; and his recent companion, Betty Jacobs. In eternal life, he is reunited with his beloved wife, Sharon; his parents, Raymond and Viola; his brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Norma Vogt and his sister-in-law, Marcela Vogt.
