Loretta Stubbe

Loretta Stubbe, 88, of Marshalltown, Iowa, entered into eternal life on the morning of May 28, 2023 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Services for Loretta will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 A.M. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. She will be laid to rest at the Restland Cemetery in Baxter, Iowa. Memorials in Loretta’s name may be directed to the First Congregational Church in Marshalltown. Loretta Marie Petermeier was born on December 21, 1934 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Chester and Laura “Loarine” (Inglis) Petermeier. She attended school in Baxter, Iowa and graduated from Baxter High School In the class of 1953.

On August 1, 1954, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald D. Stubbe at the Congregational Church in Baxter, Iowa. From 1953-1964, Loretta was employed at Maytag in Newton. In 1964, Loretta and her family came to live in Marshalltown. For several years she was an Avon lady earning several awards. She then worked for Kiowa for 23 years and retired from her position in 1997. Loretta raised her two children LuCinda and Kenneth.

Loretta was a 50-year member of the First Congregational Church in Marshalltown. She was a girl scout leader for years and was known as Mrs. Lady Bug. In her free time, Loretta enjoyed playing cards and listening to music. She was into playing Bridge and Cribbage. She loved to travel with her husband Donald and go on trips in their RV to camp and to see the lighthouses and would collect ones from the places they went to. They traveled over forty thousand miles in their RV trips.

Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children, LuCinda (Wesley) Nelson of Marshalltown, IA and Kenneth (Sally) Stubbe of Prescott Valley, AZ; her grandchildren, Allison (Eric) Burchland of Gilman, IA and Nichole (Tony) Guzzo of Prescott Valley, AZ; her great-grandchildren, Dawson Riemenschneider, Abigail and Ethan Burchland, Brooklyn Wilson, and Calliope Guzzo; 6 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-great grandchildren; her sister Aileen Taylor; her sister-in-law, Dixie Gillette; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Chester and Loarine Petermeier; her infant sister Janice; her husband Donald Stubbe; two infant grandsons Kenneth Jr. and Dustin Stubbe; her brother-in-law Larry (Eunice) Stubbe and LowdellTaylor; her long-time friend Eugene Schmidt; and her two dogs Molly and Mandy.
