Lorraine “Sug” Beavers, 99, longtime resident of Collins, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023, just 27 days before her 100th birthday.
Services for Lorraine will take place on Saturday, December 9 at 12:00 P.M. at Rhodes United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 11:00 A.M. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. Born Lorraine Francis Wallace on December 29, 1923 in Rhodes, Iowa, she was the daughter of James and Florence (Lehmkuhl) Wallace. She graduated from Rhodes High School in 1941 and AIB College of Business in 1943. She worked at Snedecor’s Lumber Yard and Woolworth’s Dime Store.
She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Reid Beavers, on March 24, 1944 at Iowa Falls United Methodist Church. They made their home on a farm near Rhodes until December of 1967 when they purchased their farm in Collins. Lorraine was a hardworking and dedicated farm wife and mother. She was a member of Rhodes United Methodist Church and the UM women’s group. In her free time, Lorraine enjoyed handwork: sewing, cross-stitch, crocheting, embroidery and tatting, as well as gardening.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Beverly Johnson of Stuart and Frank (Leeann) Beavers of Colo; daughter-in-law, Alice Beavers of Collins; grandchildren: Michele (Bruce) Brant, T.R. “Bob” (Cathy) Mills III, Jeffry Mills, Jodi (Scott) Girard, Jennifer (Shain) Birchmier, Michael (Brandy) Beavers, Laura (Aaron) Greenwell and granddaughter-in-law Tina Beavers; 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Reid; two sons: Kenneth and Jim Beavers; son-in-law John Johnson; two grandchildren: Brett and Chad Beavers; her parents, James and Florence; two brothers and three sisters.
