Louise Walkup, 87, of Marshalltown, died Friday, November 19, 2010, at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook, Iowa. She had been under the care of Compassus Hospice from Cedar Falls, Iowa.A memorial mass to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at St Henrys Catholic Church in Marshalltown with Fr. Don Czapla officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 23, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family. She was the daughter of Roy and Ruth (Hemstreet) Butler. Louise graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1941. After high school she worked as a telephone operator for AT&T. On July 9, 1944, she married Richard Walkup. They spent their married life of 64 years in Marshalltown.Louise was a member of St Henrys Catholic Church, St Patricks study club, CCW, and the Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed traveling when she and Richard retired and loved gardening, needlepoint, sewing and cooking for her family on birthdays and holidays. She treasured her time with family and friends. She will be missed.Left to cherish her memory are: a daughter, Helen (John) Studts of Marshalltown; sons, John (Connie) Walkup of Georgetown, Texas, and Jim (Brenda)Walkup of Marshalltown; seven grandchildren: Lisa Studts, Julie (Tony) Shinn, Patrick (Amanda) Walkup, Troy Walkup, Trent (Jennifer)Walkup, Sara (Jim) Carothers and Katie (Shawn) Mielke: nine great-grandchildren; Emily and Ryan Shinn, Eli, Luke, and Nathan Walkup, Gavin Walkup, Trey Carothers, and Brady and Chloe Mielke, and several nieces and nephews.Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard, daughter Gayle McGlumphy, and a sister Isabel Williams.
