Lowell Jack Reece 89, formerly of Albion, Iowa passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Hawkeye Care Center in Marshalltown, Iowa with his loving family by his side and under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Jacks wishes were to be cremated and to dress causal. A Memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Lowell and his family. Phone 641-844-1234. Lowell Reece was born on May 3, 1926, west of Union, Iowa at home; he was the son of Roy and Mildred Bixby Reece. Lowell attended school in the Albion School District. Jack worked for the M Saint L railroad before entering the United States Army on August 29, 1944, where he served during engagements, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe and received Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, Three Bronze Stars, 2 Overseas service bars, a Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart and was honorably discharged on May 9, 1946. On November 27, 1948, Jack was united in marriage to Wanda Whitaker at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They had resided outside of Albion for over 64 years. Jack had been a molder at Lennox (Marshalltown Foundry) for 23 years and custodian at Marshalltown High School for 18 years and the last 10 years as the head custodian. Jack loved sports especially the HAWKEYES, raised beautiful gardens and his yard was spotless and groomed to the hilt, but his pride and joy was his family. Left to cherish is his wife of 66 years, Wanda of Marshalltown, Iowa, Sons, Richard Dick (Diane) Reece of Adel, Iowa and Roger Reece of Marshalltown, Iowa, grandchildren, Angie(Josh) Reece-Koch of Ankeny and Casey (Dr Sean) McMurray of Bondurant, Iowa, and great-grandchildren, Quinn and Delaney McMurray, sister, Evelyn McLeland and many nieces and nephews. In death Jack rejoins his parents, Roy and Mildred, brothers Don, Darrell and brother-in-law, John McLeland.
