The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Lowell and his family. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born on December 16th, 1938, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Myron and Anna (Kellogg) Roseland. He graduated from the Dunbar High Schools Class of 1956 and served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963. On June 21st, 1958, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sherrill Haley, at the 1st United Methodist Church. They made Marshalltown their home and purchased Haleys Grocery from Les and Hazel Haley in 1976, keeping the business in the family. After retiring from the business, he turned it over to his daughter and son-in-law, but still remained involved and helped when needed. When not at work, Lowell enjoyed working with and showing the horses on his acreage. This developed lifelong friendships with other horse lovers. He was a member of the MAHA Appaloosa Club, POAC (Ponies of America Club) and served on the Central Iowa Fair Board. Lowell was one of the founding board members of the largest Appaloosa futurities in the nation and one of the founders of the POAC Breeders Challenge. He was also a member of the 1st United Methodist Church and Associated Grocers. Most of all, Lowell treasured his family especially little Gavin who arrived in the world 2 months ago. Even though his health issues with cancer were challenging these past 2 years, he proved doctors wrong and took on what needed to be done. He thoroughly enjoyed visits with family and friends and watching the horses outside his window. Still on his own timeline, he was able to complete many things he wanted to do. Left to cherish his memory are Sherrill, his loving wife of 55 years, his daughter Leslie (Stan) Groth of Marshalltown, grandchildren: Jacob (Sarah) Groth along with Gavin of Webster City and Haley Groth of Marshalltown, his siblings: Wes (Clarice) Roseland of rural Marshalltown, Art (Jan) Roseland of West Union, Iowa, and Myra (Randy) Mann of Dayton, Washington his sister-in-law Charlene Roseland of Marshalltown as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and clients. In death, Lowell rejoined his parents, two children Curtis and Katherine and his brother Sid Roseland.
