Loyd Whitmore, 98 of rural Liscomb, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center in Conrad, Iowa and under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at the Liscomb Church of Christ in Liscomb, Iowa. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Loyd Everett Whitmore was born on July 8, 1917, in rural Marshall County; he was the son of Lawrence and Emma (Bartlett) Whitmore. Loyd attended school at the Liberty School in rural Marshall County. Loyd served our country honorably in the United States Army from April 1942, until January 1946. On February 3, 1945, while in the Army Loyd was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lena Case in Leesville, Louisiana, after Loyds discharge from the service they farmed in rural Liscomb. Loyd was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a member of Liscomb Church of Christ in Liscomb, Iowa and the Liscomb American Legion. Loyd loved music and played the guitar and fiddle, something he never tired of. Left to cherish Loyds memory are his children Jack (Dianne) Whitmore of Marshalltown, Sandra Gorman of Sand Springs, OK, and Susan(Carl) Tyler of Evansdale, Iowa; his grandchildren- Lavonne Whitmore, Chad (Cheryl) Whitmore, Kari (Rick) Wolcott, Angela Whitmore, and Emily (Brad) Neitenbach, as well as his precious great-grandchildren- Mitchell, Megan and Karisa Fisher, Hannah Wolcott and Zachary Murphy and Paige, Ian and Joel Whitmore, sister, Leona Mae Vibbard of Liscomb, Iowa and sister-in-law, Viola Roberts of Fertile Iowa In death, he rejoined his parents, Lawrence and Emma, wife, Lena (2013) and daughter Lavonne, son Jerry, and son-in-law Ed Gorman, brothers, Forrest Roberts and Carl Whitmore, sisters, Ethel Jackson and Ruth Purdy.
