Lucille B. Hughes, 99, of Marshalltown, died Thursday morning, November 15, at Grandview Heights Nursing Home. She was in the care of her loving family, nurses and staff of Grandview Heights, and the Iowa River Hospice.Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2007 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. She will be laid to rest at a later date in the Graceland Cemetery in Creston, Iowa. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 3-5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Lucille was the 12th child of Christian and Eva (Schmoudar) Wurster. She graduated from Creston High School in 1927. On June 10, 1933, she united in marriage to George F. Allen. To this union was born two daughters, Judith and Karen, and two sons Thomas and George. They lived in Dayton, WA. Lucille was a homemaker. George died on February 11, 1966. Lucille later married John R. Hughes on February 21, 1969. The couple met while they both worked at the Walla Walla State Prison. John died on November 22, 1978. Lucille continued to live in Walla Walla until 1993 when she moved to Marshalltown. Lucille enjoyed arts and crafts, oil and watercolor painting, sewing, and was the best cook in town. She was a member of Schmooze, Elks, VFW Womens Auxiliary, and the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Judith (James) Hemphill of Marshalltown, and son Thomas (Claudia) Allen of Milton-Freewater, OR. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Stephen, Mark, Christopher, Jared, Amy Jo, Koren, Donald, Catherine, David, Daniel, Douglas, Jennifer, and Karen, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, 3 brothers, 8 sisters, a daughter, Karen, a son, George Emmett, and a grandson, Michael.
