Luella Ray 86, of Tama, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at the Iowa River Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be at 10:30a.m., Monday, December 16, 2013, at Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Living Faith United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice, Living Faith United Methodist Church, Tama County Humane Society, or to the family for a memorial garden on walking trail in Tama. Luella Mae Stewart was born on September 23, 1927, in Baxter, Iowa; she was the daughter of George Washington and Calverta( Jay) Stewart. Luella attended school in Lynnville, Iowa, graduating with the class of 1945. On February 18, 1951 Luella was united in marriage to James (Don) Donald Ray at her brothers home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Luella and Don had made their home in Marshalltown, Grinnell, Iowa Falls and finally settling in Tama, Iowa. Luella had worked a Cliftons, where she met the love her life, Don. She ran a hot dog stand in front of Sun Mart, fruit basket store, Caseys in Tama and cleaned for Tama County, and she and Don had Rays Crafts and the job she enjoyed the most was raising her 5 children. She was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama and volunteered at the Tama County Humane Society. Luella will be remembered as a great Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma and friend to many as she never knew a stranger. Luella had a great love for the Cubs, Vikings, Hawks, music, her favorite being Johnny Cash, dogs, flowers, walking, having fun, Road Trips with her family, ice cream, maid rites, sewing and cooking for her large family. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Cynthia (Donnie Sr.) Steuhm of Tama, Cherie (Jim) Haynes of Tama, Doug (Mona) Ray of Tama, Christy (Skip) Wilson of Toledo and Jeff (significant other Karen) Ray of Tama, Iowa. Grandchildren: Justin Ray, Heather Pentico, Heidi Skow, Hollee Lord, Blake Ray, Lindsay Ray, Taylor Ray, Brooke Schafbuch, Derek Wilson,12 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way, several step-grandchildren and great- grandchildren . Siblings: Robert Stewart of Marshalltown, Rex Stewart of Chillicothe, Iowa, special sister-in-law Sharon Mark and brother and sister- in-law Duane (Lana) Ray. In death Luella rejoins her parents, George and Calverta, Husband, Don, brother, Don Stewart, a great-grandchild and in-laws, Hobert and Bertha Ray, brother and sister-in-law, Wick and Lois Ray and brother-in-law Dale Mark.
