Lyle Richard Niemeyer

August 22, 1932 — February 21, 2022

Lyle Richard Niemeyer, 89, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on February 21st. Lyle grew up on a dairy farm in Bremer County, Iowa, and later attended Wartburg College, earning a BS in Business Administration/Economics and Biology. In 1954, Uncle Sam invited him to serve in the US Army with most of his duty time in Europe as a finance clerk with the 6th Armored Cavalry. After his service to his country, he met Ruth Ann Bauer of Mendota, Illinois and they were married in 1958. Lyle's many educational accomplishments included an MA in Business Education and Accounting from UNI. He was active in many professional organizations and received many honors--the most gratifying was the "Postsecondary Business Educator of the Year" award from the State Business Teacher's Association. Lyle taught business and accounting classes for 31 years at Marshalltown Community College, where he also enjoyed coaching tennis, taking the team to seven regional championships. Lyle retired in 1995 but never slowed down. He continued to work for Iowa State University as a part-time counselor, providing financial planning. He joined SCORE (Senior Core of Retired Executives) and served as chair of the group for several years. Up to the start of the pandemic, he served as an AARP tax preparer for low income individuals and volunteered at his church and local food pantry. Lyle is survived by his wife, Ruth, three sons, Mark, Paul and John, and six grandchildren. A private service is planned for family only.
