Lyle “Dean” Springer, 84, of Marshalltown, left his earthly home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown.


Services for Lyle will take place on Friday, November 18 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown with Pastor Jeff Kodis officiating. A visitation will take place one hour prior beginning at 10:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for later designation. Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Lyle and his family. Born Lyle Dean Springer on September 22, 1938 in Marshalltown, Iowa, he was the son of Wendell “Keith” and Alta “Loreene” (Sweringen) Springer. Upon graduating from Green Mountain High School in 1956, he attended Marshalltown Community College. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force.


After meeting the love of his life, Janice Tough, they were united in marriage on May 13, 1966 at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. The couple moved to Cedar Falls when Lyle took a position at Dorfurs. They moved back to Marshalltown in 1968, where they raised their family. Hardworking and dedicated, Lyle worked as a draftsman for Emerson – Fisher Controls until his retirement in 2000.


Lyle was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and then First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling and spending time outside, especially fishing, gardening and playing golf. Because of his precision and attention to detail, he not only enjoyed but excelled at painting by numbers and playing Atari in his early years. Later he enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, word searches and Sudoku and in these last few years, color therapy.


Left to cherish his memory are his children: Loreene “Lori” (Dan) Stackhouse of Park View, IA, Jeffrey Springer of Ottawa, Il and daughter-in-law, Christine Springer of Marshalltown, IA; grandchildren: Alicia (Blake) Matney of Liscomb, IA, Sarina (Lance) Flathers of Huxley, IA, McKinly Springer of Lynnwood, WA, Thomas Stackhouse of Ames, IA and Robert Stackhouse of Coralville, IA; great-grandchildren: Parker, Paige and Porter Matney and Taylor Flathers; sisters-in-law: Margaret Kroener, Rose Tough, Ruth Dawson and Joan Tough; and many nieces and nephews.


In eternal life, Lyle is reunited with his beloved wife, Janice; his son, James “Jim” Springer; his parents Keith and Loreene and his brothers: Richard and Perry Springer.
