Lyle Wesley Thayer

Lyle Wesley Thayer, 82, of Le Grand, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Born August 13, 1938 in Owasa, Iowa, he was the son of Harry and Edna (Lamb) Thayer.  He grew up in Hardin County and attended school in Iowa Falls. Lyle served in the National Guard from 1956-1958 and worked at the Nebraska fairgrounds until 1970, when he moved back to Iowa.  He was a “Jack of all trades” and worked in upholstery.  In 1981, Lyle was united in marriage to Fern Gull in Marshalltown. He was a member of Le Grand Friends Church and in his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Left to cherish his memory is his children: Larry (Karla) Gibson, James (Patty) Gibson and Lori (Mike Kerr) Gibson; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson. He is also survived by siblings: Loyd Thayer and Mary Ann Bagel and other family and friends.  Lyle is preceded in death by his wife, Fern; his parents, his brother, Roy Thayer and his sister, Margie Ferring.
