Lynn J. Elsberry, 94, of Marshalltown, died Sunday morning, May 18th, at the Villa del Sol. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 21st, at the Central Christian Church with burial to follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for LJ and his family. Ph 641-844-1234. Born on August 6th, 1913, in Marshall County, Iowa, he was the son of John and Leona (Bellus) Elsberry. The family moved to Amberg, Wisconsin shortly thereafter and he received his education in the Marienette County, Wisconsin schools. The family returned to central Iowa in 1928. On February 21, 1936, he was united in marriage to Adaline Mackaman in Marshalltown. They moved to Clemons in 1939 where he was employed as creamery route driver for the Clemons Creamery and later worked for Nash-Finch, calling on many grocery stores in Central Iowa. In the early 1960s, he began a passionate career in auto sales at Mid-States Motors and in early 1970, founded Elsberry Oldsmobile on Meadow Lane in Marshalltown. He later sold his dealership to Ken Wise and remained working for them until age 75 in 1988. LJ was a member of the Central Christian Church and the Elks Lodge. Even following Adalines death, he visited the Villa every day to encourage and assist residents. Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Rev. Terence L. (Nancy) Elsberry, Rector of St. Mathews Church in Bedford, New York, and James (Nicki) Elsberry, Executive Professor of Monfort College of Business, University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado, granddaughters: Anne Warrington of San Antonio, Texas, Elizabeth Meacham of Cleveland, Ohio, Gretchen Larkin of Needham, Mass, and Holly Brown of Bedford, NY, nine great-grandchildren, his brother Larry of Marshalltown and sister Ellen Morgan of Ft. Dodge as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and his family at the Villa del Sol. In death he has rejoined Adaline, his beloved wife, his parents, and five brothers: John Jr., Vernon, Glenn, Wayne and Harold.
