Lynn Mast

Lynn Mast, 96, of Grundy County, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Memorial services for Lynn will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Lynn and his family. Lynn Mast was born on June 9, 1920 on the farm in Grundy County to John Henry and Mary Algood Mast. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II from 1945 until 1946 On June 13, 1941, Lynn was united in marriage to Vera Knode in Nebraska. Vera and Lynn had lived their married lives in Tama and Grundy County until she passed away in January of 1999. Lynn had worked as a farm hand, drove a gas tanker, worked for Emmett Street in Gladbrook, maintenance at Rose Hill cemetery, a cop and maintenance for the town of Kellogg and most recently for KIOWA. Lynn enjoyed woodworking and tinkering with things. He also owned and flew his airplane and would use the gravel road in front of his fathers house as his landing strip when cars where not coming. Lynn is survived by his children: Barb (Terry) Daniel, Nancy (Dave) Heng, Wayne Mast, Darwin (Jane) Mast and Heidi (David) Swangel, brother Dale Mast and sisters Isla, June and Lola. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Lynn is preceded in death by his parents John and Mary, sister Fern, siblings Earl, Gale, Glen, John, Loyd and Dean as well as his grandson Shayne Mast.
