Lynn Robert Slining (Poppo to his grandchildren) of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010.A memorial gathering will be held Friday, October 15, at 2:00p.m., at the Iowa Veterans Home in the Dack dining room. There will be no visitation. For condolences please visit www.mitchellfh.com Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Lynn and his family Phone 641-844-1234. A private ceremony will also be held at the top of Pikes Peak in Colorado with his daughters.Lynn Robert Slining was born on July 24, 1945, to Robert and Donna (Benson) Slining in Belmond, Iowa. He was educated in the area of his birth, graduating in 1963 from high school. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1972. He married Glenda Anne Sorensen in August of 1965. He had resided in Belmond, Des Moines, and for the last 31/2 years he has been at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Lynn had been employed by the United States Postal Service for 30+ years. The most important thing in Lynns life was his GIRLS and their families, he enjoyed the family, especially his grandkids, traveling to Colorado, and visiting with just about anyone.Left to cherish Lynns memory are his daughters Michelle (Mark) Shadle of Colorado, Stacy (Jay) Albright of Florida, his grandchildren; Cameron and Sydney Shadle and Jackson and Reese Albright, Lynns sister, Roxanne Slining of Mason City, Iowa, step-mom Martha Slining of Belmond and step-brothers Lyle Klinge, Kendall (Sue) Klinge, and step-sister Delorys (Marvin) Lonnevik.Lynn was preceeded in death by his mom and dad and a sister Kathy Didio.
