Mabel Coulter

Mabel Coulter 100, of Bickford Cottages in Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away December 14, 2012 at the Iowa River Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 17, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mildred Mabel Coulter was born on July 12, 1912 in rural Marshall County; she was the daughter of Benjamin and Dora (Obrecht) Dannen. Mabel attended school in LaMoille, Iowa and graduated with the class of 1930. On July 12, 1930 in Knoxville, Iowa, Mabel was united in marriage to Leonard Coulter; she had lived in LaMoille, rural Melbourne and Marshalltown. Mabel had worked in the LaMoille Consolidated School as a school lunch cook and also at Lloyds restaurants and had been a member of Starry Grove Club. Mabel was a great seamstress and did sewing, mending, patching and zipper repair for most people in Marshall County, she also did laundry for school teachers and worked with Leonard at LaMoille School as a janitor and repair person. She will be remembered as a great cook and the grandchildren loved her beef and noodles and zucchini fluff, she had a great love for her children, grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, she enjoyed babysitting with numerous children. One of the highlights for Mabels 100th birthday was she got to attend President Obamas campaign stop in Marshalltown with front row seats and when he learned she was 100 he gave her a kiss on the check as well as being honored at the Governors Celebration honoring older Iowans. Mabel was very proud to be able to say shes a 5 generation family. Left to cherish Mabels memory are her children: Betty Wehrman of Laurel, Robert Lee Bob ( Lorraine) Coulter of Melbourne, Iowa; grand-children: Gary and Becky Wehrman, Sherry Wehrman (Woody), Larry and Cathy Wehrman, Cindy Coulter, Rob Butch (Karen) Coulter, Lenny (Steph Wobeter) Coulter, Jamie (April) Coulter; great-grandchildren: Jason (Tina) Wehrman, Crystal ( Jeremy) Cremeans, Ryan (Jane) Wehrman, Dan (Jenna)Wehrman, Ben and Bridget Coulter, Carson and Caiden Wobeter, Logan, Luke and Lawsen Coulter; great-great-grandchildren: Daxton, Lucy, and Wesley Wehrman, Jordyn and Jenna Cremeans; brother-in-law Jim (Helen) Coulter of Bonita Beach, Florida/Marshalltown and sister-in-law, Dorothy Johnson, of Brainard, Minnesota. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, her parents, Benjamin and Dora, brother, Donald, a sister in infancy, son-in-law, Lester Wehrman and a great grandson, Timmy.
