Mamie Barker

The kind, generous, quiet soul of Mamie Barker, 72, of Marshalltown, gained her angel wings on Monday, June 4th, 2018. Memorial services for Mamie will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held right before the service; starting at 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Mamie and her family.  Mamie Elizabeth Barker was born on July 21, 1945 in Marshalltown, Iowa; she was the daughter of Fred Franklin and Edna Emma (Ecklor) Barker. She attended school in the Marshalltown School District and was a graduate with the class of 1963. In 1967, Mamie started working at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in the Dietary Department and retired in 2003, after 37 years of faithful service. Mamie never had children of her own but loved and cherished the children she worked with at the Nazarene Church. She was a Sunday School teacher and aide at church and helped in any way she could; crafts, teaching with her kind spirit, even when she wasn’t helping at church, she was at Grandview Nursing Home volunteering in many ways such as helping with crafts, popping popcorn, pushing the residents to events and however else she could help. Mamie enjoyed doing crafts on her own time as well as needle point and loved to cook.  Left to cherish Mamie’s memories, are her siblings, Fred Barker, Norman Barker, and Gerald Jones along with nieces and nephews, Sondra, Lonnie, Drew, Candace, Eric, Jolene, Kathy, Bryan and Keith and special friends, Linda Halvorsen, Doug and Glenda Brockman and her friend and cousin, Shirley Bown; along with her neighbors at West Town Apartments and the Church of the Nazarene, as well as her “cousins by the dozens”.  In death, Mamie rejoins her parents, Fred and Edna, sisters, Marla Jones and Deloris Barker and grandparents, George and Minnie Ecklor and Frank and Ida Mae Barker.
