Marcella Emily Thomas, 92, of Garwin, died Wednesday morning, August 29, at the Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook while in their loving care and that of Iowa River Hospice. Marcellas family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to her extended family at Westbrook Acres and the staff of Iowa River Hospice for the wonderful care they gave her. It will never be forgotten. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 1, at the Garwin Union Cemetery. Born Marcella Starits on April 18, 1920, in rural Tama County, she was the daughter of Jake and Emma (Dvorak) Starits. She received her education in the area of her birth and graduated from the Garwin High School. On June 22, 1941, she was united in marriage to Dean Thomas in Princeton, MO. They made their home in Garwin most of their married life and she was employed at the Marshalltown Area Community Hospital (MACH, and later MMSC). She was a member of the Carlton Brethren Church and the Garwin American Legion Auxiliary. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Ann (Dick) Hauser of Liscomb and Mary Kay (John) Rose of Stewart, FL., her grandchildren: Jill Webb, Joel Winders, Jamison Winders, Tanja Rose, John Rose and Gregory Rose; ten great-grandchildren, her sister Maxine (Toby) Clough of Garwin, her brother Danny (Joyce) Starits of Garwin as well as many nieces and nephews. In death, she rejoined her husband and her parents.
