Marcelo Israel Verdinez Garcia, 52, of Marshalltown, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown. Funeral Mass for Marcelo will take place on Tuesday, December 21 at 11:30 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish – St. Mary Catholic Church. Friends and family are also invited to attend a visitation prior to services beginning at 9:30 A.M. Marcelo’s final resting place will be Riverside Cemetery. Marcelo was born in Ignacio Allende, Durango, Mexico on January 16, 1969 to parents Paulino Verdinez Hernandez and Josefina Garcia de Verdinez. Marcelo was married to Sandra Luz Varela and together they began their family in California. Later he relocated to Marshalltown, Iowa, where he has called home for over 30 years now. Hardworking, Marcelo worked several jobs over the years, including Advanced Auto Parts, JBS and construction. Most recently, he worked as an auto mechanic, combining his job with one of his favorite passions, cars. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it. In his free time, Marcelo enjoyed hosting barbeques and spending time with family and friends. He was an excellent cook and always the life of the party. He was fun-loving, knew how to have a good time and enjoyed making people laugh. He also enjoyed singing, animals and talking to his grandkids. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Sandra Verdinez, Ana Verdinez, Yessenia Verdinez and Taya Kroener; his grandchildren: Jamie and Luke Esau; his mother, Josefina Garcia de Verdinez and his siblings: Esperanza (Candido) Castañeda, Francisco Javier Verdinez, Gloria (Salvador) Gonzalez, Cecilia (Salvador) Beltrán, Paulino (Karla) Verdinez, Luz Maria Verdinez, Indira Yuridia Verdinez and Cesar Ivan Verdinez. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. In death, Marcelo is reunited with his father, Paulino Verdinez Hernandez; brother, Jose Verdinez and his grandmothers: Josefa Hernandez de Verdinez and Jovita Garcia.
