Margaret Barker, 91, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away at Grandview Heights Nursing Home on Friday, September 23, 2011 surrounded by her loving Grandview Family.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 1:00 to 7:00p.m.at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Margaret and her family. Phone 641-844-1234.Margaret Marie Sloan was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on September 26, 1919 to John Sloan and Maude Strong. On November 12, 1954 she was united in marriage to Leroy Edward Barker in Lincoln, Nebraska, they had lived their entire married lives in Marshalltown. Margaret had worked for her neighbors cleaning and laundry as a day worker. In her younger years she had attended the Salvation Army Church. She loved her Grandview family always cracking a joke, making the staff laugh, sharing a Diet Pepsi and loved Kentucky Fried Chicken. She had always loved animals and always enjoyed visits from her God-dog Firgie and Firgies mom Connie Severe. After spending time away at the hospital, she was so glad to be back to her home and family at Grandview.Left to cherish her memory is her brother: George Sloan, her dear friend Connie Stalzer Severe and God-dog Firgie and her Grandview Family.Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy,parents and siblings Blanche and Johnny.
