Margaret “Peggy” Gilsdorf, 79, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away at the Iowa Veteran’s Home on Sunday, April 5, 2020. At this time private graveside services will be held for Peggy. A celebration of life will be held for both Peggy and Bill at a later date under the direction of the family. Memorials in Peggy’s name may be directed to her family for a later designation. Margaret Jeanne Hemphill was born August 16, 1940 to parents Keith and Eunice (Schultz) in Columbus, Ohio. She and her family lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she grew up and lived a majority of her life. She attended school where she grew up and graduated from Will Rogers High School in the class of 1958. On March 25, 1970, Margaret was united in marriage to her husband William “Bill” Gilsdorf in Tulsa Oklahoma. The two began a family of their own as well as raising their combined family together. Peggy worked as an LPN while in Tulsa as well as being a homemaker for her family. She went back to school as her kids grew older and attended Tulsa Junior College where she graduated with her degree in psychology. She graduated with high marks and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Bill and Peggy were both members of numerous square-dancing clubs in the Tulsa area. The two called Tulsa home for many years before moving to Iowa in 2014. They lived in Newton as well as the Iowa Veteran’s Home together during their time in Iowa. Peggy was an avid reader, enjoyed crafting, and most importantly she loved to spend time with her grandchildren and the rest of her family. Left to remember and cherish her memory are her children Michael (Patricia) Moffatt, Kathy (James) Shadden, Vanessa (Robert) Cunningham, and Kara Smithee; her grandchildren David (Emily) Riley, Lee Braswell, Daniel Moffatt, Michaela Moffatt, Amber (Michael) Moore, Samantha (Brett) Gibson, Eric (Charity) Covey, Kara Conrad, Lindsey Covey, Jessica Shadden, and Trevor (Kaleigh) Higgins; 13 great-grandchildren with another on the way. She was rejoined in death by her husband William “Bill” Gilsdorf; her parents Keith and Eunice; children Christopher Moffatt and Timothy Gilsdorf; grandchildren Michael Moffatt Jr. and James Shadden Jr.; and her brother James Richard Hemphill.
