Margaret Jeanne Henderson, 86, of Bickford Cottage in Marshalltown, formerly of Toledo, died Sunday October 12th, 2008 while in the care of Bickford Cottage staff, the Iowa River Hospice, and her family. A celebration of Margarets life will be 1:30 p.m. Friday October 17th at Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Born September 19th, 1922 in Council Bluffs, she was the daughter of Paul Lloyd and Norma Louise (Wilharm) Tremaine. The family moved to Sumner in June of 1933, where Margaret graduated from Sumner High School in 1940. Margaret then attended AIB in Des Moines from 1940 until she took a job in the summer of 1941 as a secretary for an insurance agency in Des Moines. Margaret then moved to Waverly and took a similar job later that year. On January 2nd, 1943, Margaret was united in marriage to Milton H. Huebner. They had one son together, Gere. Milton was a fighter pilot in the U.S. Army Air Force and was shot down over Germany on December 25th, 1944, and was declared dead a year and one day later on December 26th, 1945. Margaret continued to live and work in Sumner until she was united in marriage to Donald K. Henderson on November 26th, 1950. They moved to Toledo in the spring of 1951. Together, Don and Margaret managed the Hotel Toledo for Dons uncle Floyd Lindsey, from 1951-1957. During that time, two daughters were born: Paula in 1952, and Norma in 1955. Margaret and Don purchased the Henderson Funeral Home from Dons parents, C.L. and Lucy Henderson, and moved their family to the funeral home in 1957. A third daughter, Susan was born in 1958. They operated the funeral home for 30 years, selling it in 1987 to Bruce and Barbara Overton. After retiring from their business, they continued to make their home in Toledo. During her lifetime, Margaret enjoyed dancing, ice skating, swimming, golf and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo, UMW, P.E.O. Chapter DF, Toledo American Legion Auxiliary, and Tama County Republican Women. Margaret was preceded in death by her husbands, Milton in 1945 and Donald in 1995, her parents, two brothers, great granddaughter Madeline, and daughter-in-law Karen Huebner. Margaret is survived by her children: Gere Huebner of Park Rapids, MN, Paula (Bradley) Rutherford of Marshalltown, IA, Norma Henderson of St. Peter, MN, and Susan (John) Niethammer of Stillwater, MN; seven grandchildren, four step grandchildren, four great granddaughters, seven step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
