Margaret Anna Collins was born January 20, 1932 to parents Robert and Esther (Johnson) Collins in Albion, Iowa. She grew up alongside her two siblings and was the middle child. Margaret attended school in Albion, Iowa where she graduated in the class of 1949. She furthered her education at the Iowa Teacher’s College and received her bachelor’s degree.
On April 10, 1954, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Raymon “Ray” McNeece at the Albion Methodist Church. In the early years of their marriage, Margaret taught high school education courses in Home Economics and English in Gladbrook and Ferguson while making their home in Marshalltown. They began raising a family and had four children together. It was at this time that Margaret made taking care of family her career.
Margaret’s faith was extremely important to her being involved heavily in the First Methodist Church. Additionally, she was involved with UMW, the Naomi Circle, church mission work, and was the co-founder of the Hope Chapel which specialized in Sunday school for those who had special needs. Outside of church she spent plenty of time serving as a girl scout leader. In her free time, she was known to be an avid gardener, a great seamstress making clothing for her children, and making her delicious yeast rolls, angel food cakes, and jams.
She is survived by her children, Raena Carlisle, Marilee McNeece, and Mark McNeece; her grandchildren, Matt (Megan) McNeece, Blake McNeece, Brandy McNeece, Grant (Taya) Carlisle, and Derrick McNeece; her great-grandchildren, Levi, Logan, Lyric, Aubrey, and Emma; and her brother-in-law, Jim Youngblood.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ray; her son, John McNeece; her parents Robert and Esther Collins; her brother, Ted Collins and Sister Della Meyerhoff; and sister-in-law, Joan Youngblood.
