Margaret Paustian

Margaret L. Paustian, 90, of Toledo, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral services for Margaret will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date. Margaret Hegardt was born on September 4, 1926 in Tama to Clarence and Lyle Harrison Hegardt. She was raised and educated in the Tama area. On January 10, 1946, Margaret was united in marriage to Louis Paustian in Marshalltown. They farmed in the Traer and Sheridan area before settling near Gladstone where they lived for 63 years. Margaret was Regent of the former Conestoga Chapter of the DAR of Tama County and was currently a member of the DAR Spinning Wheel Chapter of Marshalltown. She was also a charter member of the Tama County Historical Society and Genealogical Library. Margaret is survived by her children; Ann (Vic) Vokoun and Don (Marlene) Paustian and her grandchildren: Todd (Shelly) Vokoun, Kristi (Martin Gedney) Vokoun, Joel (Nicole) Paustian and LeAnn (Lars) Avery and her great granddaughter Leah Paustian. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Mike (Sheila) Vokoun and Jodi (Matt Milligan) Greiner and step-great grandchildren: John, Joshua and Jade Greiner and Nathaniel, Nicholas and Neil Vokoun. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Louis; her parents; daughter Mary Lou Paustian and sister Nadine Sevde.
