Maria Elena Hernandez Guevara

Maria Elena Hernandez Guevara, 61, of Ottumwa, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25th, at the University of Iowa Hospital. Her death came peacefully with her family at her side. A funeral mass will be held (in Spanish) at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 29th, at St. Marys Catholic Church. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-9:00 p.m. Thursday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born on January 10th, 1955, in Mexico, Maria was the daughter of Dolores Guevara and Maria Guadalupe Castillo. She received her education in Mexico and later came to the United States where she raised her family. Maria was of Catholic faith and treasured her family. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Marcela Hernandez (Francisco Hernandez) of Ottumwa; Alvaro Hernandez, Jr. of Marshalltown; Eric Hernandez (Nancy) of Marshalltown and Braulio Hernandez (Laura) of Avon Park, FL. as well as many grandchildren, her parents (in Mexico) and siblings as well as other family. In death she rejoined her beloved husband who passed away three years ago.
