Marian Downs

Marian Myrene Downs, 88, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Bickford Cottages. Funeral services for Marian will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28 also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Marian Hempy was born on November 11, 1927 at Indian Village Township in Tama to Ray and Bernice Stoner Hempy. She graduated from Montour High School. On May 28, 1949, Marian was united in marriage to Gordon Downs in Montour. Marian had worked for Marshalltown Trowel, Marshall Man and was also a housekeeper and raised her foster children. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, liked to play cards, dance and loved the time she spent with her grandchildren. Marian is survived by her children: Bill (Cindy) Downs of Montour and Rick (Robin) Downs of Garwin, eight grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Darlene Boriskey. Marian is preceded in death by her husband Gordon, parents Ray and Bernice, daughter Jeanie Downs, siblings Bob Hempy and Helen Slingluff and half-sister Doris Skyes.
