Marian B. Fitch

Marian B. Mick Fitch, 91, of Marshalltown, formerly of Garwin, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Villa del Sol Nursing Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2008 at the Garwin United Methodist Church with Pastor Harry Wach officiating. Interment will be in the Austinville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Marians name to the Garwin United Methodist Church or Iowa River Hospice. Ph 641-844-1234.Born on May 15, 1917 in Austinville, Iowa, she was the daughter of R.C. and Lena (Voss) Bode. Marian graduated fromAckley High School. On September 7, 1940, she married Frank E. Fitch in Aplington. To this union, two children were born, Tom and Mary. In 1953, the family moved to Garwin. Marian and Frank bought a grocery store, which they named Fitchs General Store. They operated their business until they sold the store and retired in 1977. Marian and Frank enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona for several years. Marian was a member of the Garwin United Methodist Church, Life Builders, and she taught the adult Sunday school class at the church. She also enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle.Left to cherish her memory are her children, Tom Fitch of Garwin, and Mary (John) Bankus of Carlisle, IA; her grandchildren, Jacki (Ryan) Miller of Marshalltown, Melissa (Steve) Green of Indianola, and Nicole (Kent) Porterfield of St. Louis, MO; her great-grandchildren, Tanner Uhde, Marissa Miller, Madeline Green, Abby Green, Claire Porterfield, and Grace Porterfield; and her sister-in-law Susie Bode of Austinville, IA.She was preceded in death by her four sisters and four brothers and her husband, Frank.
