Marie DeLawyer on September 25, 1922, near Bangor in Marshall County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Cordia A. and Ethel Mae (Parrish) DeLawyer. She attended the Union Public Schools and graduated from the Union High Schools Class of 1941. While in school, she helped her dad farm. On January 16, 1944, while he was on a 10 day leave from the service, she was united in marriage to George Knight in her parents living room with his sister and brother-in-law as attendants. They shared 49 years of marriage together before his passing on October 4, 1993. Marie was employed for 20 faithful years at Fisher Controls in the tool control office until her retirement in 1982. She was a faithful member of the First Friends Church in Marshalltown earning the title of Official Hugger and participated in USFW, funeral committees and sent the monthly birthday and anniversary cards. Marie enjoyed baseball games, swimming at the Y and fishing- her trophy was a 10 lb. Walleye! Most of all she treasured her family and friends and making them all laugh. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Linda Knight of West Point, Virginia and Allan Knight of Marshalltown, son-in-law Denny Arment of Marshalltown, seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one-great-great-granddaughter as well as her sister, Dorothy (George) Sorenson of Union, her longtime friend Russell Shaw ofGarwin and her four-legged companion, Lilly, her Papillion. In death, Marie rejoined her beloved George, her parents, granddaughter Carrie and daughter Pamela Arment.
