Marie Simbides

Marie Simbides, age 83, of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully the morning of Thursday, December 19, 2019, at Unity Point Health Marshalltown with family at her side. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 23rd, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. There will be no visitation. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com . Ph. 641-844-1234. Born Marie Praska on September 30th, 1936, in Protivin, Iowa, she was the daughter of Ralph and Gertrude (Kubik) Praska. She received her early education in Cresco, Iowa, and later graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Marshalltown.       On June 9th, 1956, she was united in marriage to the love of her life and best friend Fred Simbides at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They made their home in Marshalltown. Marie, her sister, Shirley, and two other friends, ran the bingo hall for the VFW for over 20 years. She loved playing bingo and frequent trips to the casino. She enjoyed taking trips with her family to Las Vegas and multiple family cruises. Marie also enjoyed admiring her backyard flower garden. She treasured her family and her dog, Bingo. Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Rita (Jeff) Graves, Steve (Tracy) Simbides, and Carol (Evan) Ealy all of Marshalltown; her grandchildren- Shanna (Chad) Blink, Aaron (Kristi) Steward, Taylor Simbides, Jordyn (Raymond) Dulaney, Kyler, Kolton, Kassidy, Kanalisha and Kadyn Ealy as well as great-grandchildren Alyssa and Autumn Blink, Dakota Steward and Ryker Ealy. Also surviving is her sister Shirley (the late Kenny) Karns of Marshalltown and brother Ray (Linda) Praska of Albion, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  In death, Marie rejoined her beloved husband Fred who passed away in 2016, and her parents.
