Marilee Weir

Marilee Marceda Weir, 85, of Marshalltown, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Bickford and under the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services for Marilee will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held one hour before, starting at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. Please dress casual to honor Marilee. Marilee VandeKamp was born on March 16, 1932 north of Laurel to John and Marceda Kuhns VandeKamp. She graduated from Gilman High School. In 1951, Marilee was united in marriage to Samuel Weir Jr. at the Laurel Methodist Church. Marilee showed cattle through 4-H and later as an adult, she bred black schnauzers. In fact, Barbara Walters bought a schnauzer from them once. She stayed in the car, but she had come to their farm to pick up her puppy! She was also a farm wife as well as drove a school bus. Marilee enjoyed playing bingo, reading and spending time with her family. Marilee is survived by her children: Doug (Sandy) Weir of Gilman and Keith (Linda) Weir of Gilman. Grandchildren: Brad Weir, Christa (Tim) Pansegrau and Amy Weir. She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Megan, Emily, Austin, Jacob and Jerica as well as her sister, Doris Weaver of Grinnell. Marilee is preceded in death by her husband Samuel, parents John and Marceda and grandson, Timothy.
