Marilyn Bales, 84 of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017, at Hawkeye Care Center in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later time. Marilyn Jean Herman was born on March 15, 1932, in St. Thomas Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa; she was the daughter of Homer and Dorothy Herman. She attended school in Marshalltown and graduated from St. Marys High School in 1950. On September 17, 1950, Marilyn was united in marriage to Harold Lavern Bales at St. Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown. She was a homemaker and also worked at Newton and Gillams Jewelry Stores in Marshalltown. She was a member of St. Mary and St. Henry Catholic Church and Marshalltown Ballroom Dance Club. Marilyn enjoyed cooking and was a good cook; she and Harold loved to ballroom dance and polka, play a good game of cards, ride their bikes, travel and watch their son play baseball and softball. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 66 years, Harold Bales, and son, William Bales of Marshalltown, Iowa. In death Marilyn rejoins her parents, Homer and Dorothy Herman.
