Marilyn Joyce Brees

Marilyn Brees, 89, of the Iowa Veterans Home passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Phone 641-844-1234. Marilyn Joyce Elliot was born on February 10, 1928 in Huron, South Dakota; she was the daughter of Cash G. and Alice I. (Gustafson) Elliott. She attended and graduated from Ottumwa High School with the Class of 1946. She went on to Business School. In 1951, Marilyn was united in marriage to Ralph Lawson and they were blessed with two children, Roger and LeAnn, they later divorced. On January 31, 1976, she married Frank O. Brees at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa; they made their home in Marshalltown, Iowa where she worked and retired from United Federal Savings and Loan. Marilyn had been a longtime member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses. She loved art and enjoyed painting and drawing, she and Frank enjoyed dancing, Marilyn will be remembered as a great cook and always loved her flowers inside and outside. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Roger (Cheryl) Lawson of Houston, Texas, LeAnn Marie (Les) Cunningham of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, Joshua (Bonnie) Robertson, Ryan Lawson, Katie (Steven) Helgeson, Tyler (Lauren) Cunningham; great-grandchildren, Selah, Mikale, Nora, Creed and Chase; Franks children, Patricia Walker of North Liberty, Iowa, Nancy Brees of Marshalltown, Iowa, and her sister, Deloris Stitz of Edmonds, Washington. In death Marilyn rejoins her parents, Cash and Alice; husband, Frank; brothers, John Elliott and Robert Elliott, and Franks son, Dennis Brees.
