Marilyn Ann Denton, 85, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2022. Services for Marilyn will take place on Thursday, April 21 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born Marilyn Ann Paxson on August 4, 1936 in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Addison and Ruth (Larsen) Paxson. After graduating from Marshalltown High School, she received her associates’ degree in literary arts at Austin Community College in Minnesota. In addition to being a loving and devoted mother to her three children, Marilyn was hard working all of her life, with various positions including: a Coordinator for the ARC, managing a chain restaurant, greeting customers at Wal-Mart, and serving up smiles and lunches for local school children in area school cafeterias. Wherever she was working, Marilyn gave her all, made friends along the way and was a ray of sunshine. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, playing poker, playing bingo, traveling, and going to the movies. She had a sincere and warm smile, infectious laugh and more than anything else, loved spending time with her friends and family. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons: Scott Nelson (Cynthia Nelson) and Adam Denton (Alex Chandler); three grandchildren: Audrey Nelson, Grant Nelson, and Jennifer Humphrey; two great-grandchildren, Clara Humphrey, Madison Humphrey as well as her cousin, Dennis Paxson. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Addison and Ruth Paxson; her daughter, Gina Gorsuch and her brothers, Mickey and Eddie Paxson.
