Marilyn J. Elliott, 82, of Laurel, died Friday, October 26, 2012, at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Services for Marilyn will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at the Laurel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow services at the Graceland Cemetery near Laurel. Visitation for Marilyn will be held from 6:00 p.m., - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where her family will be present to greet friends. Memorial contributions may be directed in her name to her family. Marilyn was born January 27, 1930, in Laurel, Iowa, the daughter of Harold Leonard and Avis Marjorie (Otten) Brown. She was raised and educated in Laurel attending the Laurel School System. On August, 1, 1954, in Laurel, Iowa, Marilyn was united in marriage to the love of her life, George Elliott. Marilyn and George made their home in Laurel for all of their married lives where they raised their children. Early in their married years Marilyn worked for Boss Freight Lines and later the Security Savings Bank.Throughout her lifetime she was a member of Faith Evangelical Church of Laurel and later years attended the Laurel United Methodist Church , the Laurel Legion Auxillary and the United Methodist Women. Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her Wednesday morning coffee group at the Laurel Caf and tending to her flower beds, but most of all she loved attending her grandchildrens sporting and musical activities. Above all, Marilyn was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family and will be greatly missed by all. Marilyn is survived by her husband of 58 years, George Elliott, her children: Lori Elliott Edwards of Laurel, Lisa (Karl) Alspach of Buford, Georgia, Lana Elliott Anderson of Laurel and Loni Elliott of Laurel, her grandchildren: Matthew (Stefanie) Everts of Moberly, Missouri, Michela (John) Augustine of Marshalltown, Ryan (Jennifer) Alspach of Georgia, Alyssa Alspach of Buford, Georgia. Brett, Alexa, Noah, Elijah and Riley Anderson of Laurel, Payton Edwards of Laurel and Talon Elliott of Laurel, her great-grandchildren: Skyler and Samantha Everts of Moberly, Missouri, Maggie and Ava Augustine of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Christian and Owen Alspach of Georgia,her three sisters: Janet Lutes of Georgia, Nancy Ferguson of Illinois and Bette (Steve) Brindle of Indiana and many nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law Norman Anderson.
