Marilyn Jean King

Marilyn Jean King, 72, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the Iowa Veterans Home.

Services for Marilyn will take place on Sunday, February 2 at 12:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Colo Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 11:00 A.M. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Born Marilyn Jean Hanlin on October 26, 1953 in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Robert and Betty (McBride) Hanlin. She graduated from South Tama High School in 1972. Marilyn cared deeply for others and dedicated her working years as a nurse’s aide and an in-home daycare provider. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and ceramics.

She was united in marriage on July 14, 1995 to Richard King and celebrated 28 years together before his passing in 2024. Together they raised Andy Zheng, who was like a son to them.

Left to cherish her memory are her stepsons: Joseph (Rebecca) King of Toledo and Michael King of Cedar Rapids; her niece, Leah Weir of Marshalltown; her father, Robert Hanlin of Montour; and siblings: Robert (Sue) Hanlin Jr. of Montour, Laura (Bill) Davis of Toledo, Penny Vranek of Marshalltown and her grandchildren: Braden, David, Amillianna, Aaden, Athena and Aurora King.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Richard and her mother, Betty Hanlin.
